Researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey found that positive emotions - even those that look through a distorting lens - can a reinforcing role in the diet of eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, which has a rate of 12 times play higher in women aged of 15 and 24 than all other causes of death combined between.

Selby added that only about a third of women recover after treatment.

For the study, researchers measured over a period of two weeks, the emotional states of 118 women aged 18-58 for anorexia nervosa treatment in between. Selby noted that suffered in the study not only of negative emotions, but also feel emotionally positively have to get a sense of pride in the ability and exceed your weight loss goals.

They found that women in the study, the more difficulties to understand how to recognize when positive emotions were biased, are involved in common, such as vomiting, loss of appetite, laxative, limiting calories, excessive exercise, check the fat had behavior and controls body weight constant.

"Women with anorexia are often complex emotional places, so it is important to understand both what they get from this experience," Selby said. "The more we know, not only negative emotions, but also the positive emotions. Having this disease, the best treatment of this devastating disease"

Much of the positive reinforcement that make women with anorexia feel good about their situation could of "pro-anorexia websites", where it is not uncommon for people to come with anorexia, for their control and courage to reach applause extreme weight loss.

This link between positive emotions and behaviors weight loss becomes a vicious circle for some women with disorders that are reached for weight even after eating their goals to lose more.

Selby said more research is needed to find a path to the positive emotions that find with weight loss in other healthy activities associated redirection, and how these feelings have in the treatment of people with eating disorders are treated.

"It is important for many of these women control," Selby said. "What we need to do is find a way to connect the positive feelings they feel in losing weight on other aspects of your life that will lead to a more balanced sense of happiness."
